Individual Home Support

Independence

Every individual values and has a right to independence, and individuals to whom Network provides community supports are no exception. These individuals develop their own unique talents and abilities, and staff help them set personal goals and reach milestones. We even have a talented artist in our program who teaches a weekly class for participants in her own and other programs. Her art is currently being exhibited in the Department of Developmental Services.

Activities

With staff support and encouragement, community support program participants engage in life-affirming social activities in the community like Friday night dances or games nights or crafts nights. They have even been in the audience of the Channel 3 feature show Better CT and have taken educational outings to places like the Nathan Hale Homestead as well as recreational ones like trips to see the New Britain Rock Cats. 

Assistance

Staff assist in very practical ways as well. They provide transportation to doctors’ offices or pharmacies in the eastern part of the state where public transportation is lacking. They teach life skills like hygiene, cooking, cleaning, and fire safety. They may even oversee energy assistance, rent subsidy, and medical care for some participants. 

Health

Network’s registered nurses coordinate the medical health care needs of the individuals in this program. They also monitor doctor’s appointments and medications.

Relationships

Most importantly, staff play a role as mentors who share life experiences and forge meaningful connections with special needs participants. Network also lends a hand when it comes to empowering individuals to pursue vocations and create essential support networks, so that they can develop the emotional security that enables them to integrate themselves into the community in rewarding ways.
